Legacy Names Head Volleyball Coach


Rachel Smith Named Legacy Head Volleyball Coach

SPRING, Texas (June 3, 2020) Legacy the School of Sport Sciences has named Rachel Smith as the Titans’ head volleyball coach. Smith will also teach middle school Science.

Smith, who has coached club volleyball for six years, was an accomplished student-athlete at both the high school and college levels. The former Rachel Sharp played middle blocker at Tarkington High School (Cleveland, Texas), where the two-time district and regional most valuable player concluded her stellar prep career, by leading the Lady Longhorns to the Class 3A state semifinals in both 2011 and 2012. A two-time Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) all-state selection, Smith was tabbed the TGCA 1A-2A-3A Athlete of the Year for the 2012-2013 academic year and was also named to the TGCA All-Star Team as a senior.

Smith continued her playing career at Blinn College, where the outside hitter was a two-time Region 14 honorable mention selection and helped lead the Buccaneers to back-to-back National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship titles in 2013 and 2014.

Smith went on to play the last two years of her volleyball career at the University of Central Arkansas, an NCAA Division I program in the Southland Conference. She graduated from UCA in August 2017 with a degree in health sciences.

Legacy Varsity Volleyball will compete as a member of the Texas Christian Athletic League (TCAL) for the 2020 season. Follow Legacy Titans Volleyball on Twitter @LSSSVB
