Extracurricular Activities

At Legacy the School of Sport Sciences, we believe activities beyond the classroom are essential to a student's social, physical, and emotional development.  That's why we offer a variety of team sport activities, as well as clubs and hands-on training to re-enforce what's taught in the classroom.

Because academics is the first priority at Legacy, all students must adhere to the "80 to Participate" Grading Policy, which states "To participate in ANY extracurricular activity, students must fulfill all requirements of Legacy coursework with a minimum grade of 80% in each class on their progress reports and report cards."

As a public charter school, there is a funding gap of at least $1,200 per student per year versus a traditional Independent School District.  In addition, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) does not fund extracurricular activities.  However, 97% of our student population participates in extracurricular activities.  To participate in athletics at Legacy, it costs approximately $1,500 per student-athlete, which consists of travel, uniforms/apparel, equipment, gear, trainers, coaches, facility usage, etc.  There is roughly a $2,700 per student shortfall.

The extracurricular fee (ECF) subsidizes/provides an additional funding stream for each sport program/student organization respectively to use for necessary expenditures for each program.  The ECF assists with reducing the shortfall gap while also providing support for the sport programs/organizations.  All expenditures require approval based on local, state, and/or federal policy.  Necessary expenses are (but not limited to) as follows:  travel/transportation, lodging, officiating fees, league fees, uniforms, equipment, travel gear/apparel as applicable to each sport/organization, coach(es) stipend, facility usage/rental, etc.  All other expenses (wants), at the discretion of the head coach/sponsor, may be appropriated once annual necessary fees have been allocated.

Note:  ECFs must be paid in full prior to the first regular season contest, unless otherwise communicated by the Head Coach, Program/Organization Advisor, or Legacy staff.
