During the second semester, life becomes busy for both teachers and students. STAAR, benchmarks, and finals are right around the corner, so lessons focus heavily on preparation. Some sports are also in season, while others are already training for what’s ahead. Each individual at our school has a different schedule and idea of this semester, so here’s what this looks like for students and staff.

Seniors are preparing for college, but many experience the common phrase “senioritis,” where motivation starts to drop during their final year. Still, many say they are “ready to graduate,” which pushes them to keep their grades above an 80. Others are looking ahead to their future at the colleges they’ve committed to or plan to attend.

Teachers get pretty busy and demanding as well. They have to plan lessons and create reviews to prepare students for any upcoming tests, especially STAAR. Teachers can get burnt out as well. In fact, many of them have children at home or plans outside of school that can make it hard to work around lesson planning.

For middle school students, our school works very hard to prepare them for STAAR and benchmark tests to ensure their academic performance is at its best before testing. With the support of our high school teachers, middle schoolers have had extra help and an idea of what high school teaching may look like.

Overall, the second semester is busy and sometimes an overwhelming period for everyone. However, many individuals are excited about the opportunities that come with hard work and effort.
