National Honor Society (NHS) is a high school organization that recognizes students who excel in the four key pillars; scholarship, service, leadership, and character. On April 29, 2026, the Titan family celebrated the induction of new members and positions.
The new inductees for the 2026-2027 school year are: Chelsea Melgar, Nyajiah Richardson, Javier Cervantes, Ronnie Pickett, Blen Solomon, Morgan Dargans, Kayliah Adagun, Victoria Trevino, Nathan Kirby, Yeliah Torres, Skye Samuel, Jamie Paz, and Stephanie Vargas.
I spoke with four NHS members, one for every pillar, and I asked them what that pillar means and how they apply it to their everyday lives.
Scholarship: Ronnie Pickett, a junior, said, “Scholarship to me, means education. In a small answer it means being on task academically and trying to learn new things without having to be told.”
Service: Jamie Paz explained, “To me, service means being able to help those around me become better every day. I put that into my life by just being nice and giving advice based on my past mistakes.”
Leadership: As a senior, Chelsea Melgar uses leadership to guide those looking up to her. She stated, “Leadership to me means being able to guide both yourself and others while navigating through new experiences. I show leadership by being open about both my accomplishments and my mistakes. We shouldn’t create false narratives for younger people. They need to truly see that a leaders path to success comes with endeavors, challenges, and setbacks.”
Character: Last but not least, the fourth pillar. Zantana Becerra mentioned, “Character means showing good morals and having integrity. Also being dependable and respectful. I use this pillar by helping others, doing right when no one is watching, and following orders when told.”
Our members described the pillars beautifully and demonstrated how NHS values can be used both in and out of school.
