Students at Legacy the School of Sport Sciences are given the chance to get ahead and take college courses. The P-TECH program is offered through Lone Star Community College, and other college credits can be taken through OnRamps classes, which are offered through the University of Texas. While it is quite a challenge, it’s also an affordable and amazing opportunity to get college credits.

With the P-TECH program, students in grades 9–12 are able to receive up to an associate's degree in business. This is also a chance to build up dual credit and gain a better idea of what college work will look like.

OnRamps at the University of Texas at Austin allows high school students to take college classes and earn both high school and college credits. While taking the classes, teachers are available to support and guide students in the right direction.

I asked a Titan senior a few questions about taking OnRamps classes. Aaliyah Becerra stated, “OnRamps classes are very fast-paced. You have to stay disciplined and motivated to study. It’s easy to get lost in work, but you have to keep pushing. Once you pass the class, it is so rewarding. When there’s a will, there’s a way. Since I’m a senior, I prioritize my school work before anything else. I created a schedule to stay on top of everything.” She recommended being timely and wise, adding that social media can wait until your end goal is college.

It’s important for students to take advantage of the opportunities given so they can prepare themselves to succeed. While the workload is a challenge, it creates a smoother road ahead and a college-ready mindset. As Aaliyah stated, staying disciplined is key. Those who are willing to put in the effort are able to create a foundation for themselves in the future.
