Giving back to our community is always talked about in school, it isn’t a new idea here, but we put that statement into action once again. Recently, our student council team and volunteers gathered clothes, food, and other necessities to give out. It didn’t stop there, Mr. Dixon and staff gathered volunteers to give back once again. As part of the Quest Learning Institute, Mr. Dixon has been a big help around the community and wanted to bring along our Titans!

Houston is the fourth-largest city in the U.S., and unfortunately, it is home to thousands of individuals experiencing homelessness. Students were able to step out of the classroom and get a real feel of what it’s like to give back to those in need. Collecting bottles and making sandwiches, volunteers gathered on campus to prepare for the trip to Houston.

For some students, the experience was especially personal. Junior Onyx Bright mentioned, “My perspective has always been the same, everyone wants someone to talk to. I’ve been homeless myself and sometimes you just need to hear their story.”

Giving back isn’t a one and done deal, it’s key to have consistency and remember that everyone needs a little help once in a while. Not only is Legacy organizing events for the school, but also extending their impact off campus and into the community. Real change consists of compassion and commitment. Legacy brings both to the table.
