Flag Football on the Go!

Like many schools, Legacy offers girls' flag football, a popular sport on the rise. What is flag football, you ask? This sport is a different version of American football. It is a no-contact sport played with belts and flags. Instead of tackling, the defender pulls a flag. It’s also played on a smaller field, usually 5v5 or 7v7.

Outstanding Player

Some of our flag football players have been playing for years, one of those players being Aaliyah Becerra. Unfortunately, Aaliyah has ruptured her Achilles tendon but will be fully recovered and able to play in September. I asked, “How does it feel to be injured during the season?” She responded, “My injury was discouraging at first, but now I can’t just see it as a challenge—I have to see it as a journey. God does things for a reason, and I just have to trust the process.” Aaliyah continues to look at the path ahead of her while also staying busy by working out and helping her teammates.

A Titan Flag Football Player's Schedule

The grind doesn’t stop on the field. Our girls are pushed to do their best and more, both on and off the field. Every week from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mindset Mondays are held in the classroom, where Coach TK teaches players how to get to green and how to stay focused. After that, students head to practice. Practice is also held on Wednesdays and Thursdays, where the team works on a variety of plays and skills needed in a real game.

Benefits

Since the popularity of girls' flag football has risen, scouts are constantly on the lookout for individuals ready to give their all, both as players and as students. Many of our girls have received offers and shows of interest from colleges as well. Not only can it help get you into college, but it’s also good for your communication skills. In this sport, communication is key, whether it be discussing what’s happening on offense while on defense or deciding routes that correlate with each other to avoid collisions.

Conclusion

Overall, girls' flag football continues to grow, offering individuals opportunities to improve their skills, work as a team, and prepare themselves for their future ahead!
