5.3 - Student Intervention - Tutoring Support

At Legacy the School of Sport Sciences, academic intervention for P-TECH students is integrated through structured office hours and individualized support. Students receive tutoring and academic assistance by meeting directly with their core course teachers during scheduled office hours, which are established based on each teacher’s availability. This flexible model ensures timely, subject-specific intervention and allows teachers to address both immediate academic concerns and long-term mastery of content. For students enrolled in Lone Star College dual credit courses, tutoring and academic support are coordinated through Freddie Johnson, the designated Student Support Specialist. Mr. Johnson works directly with students to review coursework, address challenges in college-level material, and provide guidance on success strategies. This two-tiered support structure ensures that all P-TECH students receive timely, targeted help aligned to both their high school and college-level coursework.

5.4 - Classroom Supports - Advisory/Study Skills Curriculum

At Legacy the School of Sport Sciences, all P-TECH students are scheduled into a dedicated Titan Lab period during the school day to receive embedded academic support. This period functions as an Advisory/Study Skills block, where each student is assigned to a specific teacher who serves as their point of contact and mentor throughout their Lone Star College dual credit coursework. The Titan Lab is designed to provide structured academic check-ins, time management coaching, study skills reinforcement, and individualized assistance with college-level assignments. This support ensures that students are not only staying current with their work but also building the independent learning habits essential for success in both high school and postsecondary settings.

  • Ongoing Components

    • Weekly grade checks for Lone Star College courses

    • One-on-one student-teacher check-ins

    • Writing lab or tutoring referral support

    • Access to technology and quiet work time

5.5 - Multi-tiered System of Supports - Family Outreach Events

Legacy the School of Sport Sciences integrates family engagement as a critical tier of its Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework. Through intentional, recurring outreach events, Legacy builds strong partnerships with parents and guardians to support student success in both high school and dual credit environments. These events are designed to inform families of academic expectations, college readiness benchmarks, available interventions, and student progress in real time. Legacy’s MTSS structure ensures families are engaged not only as stakeholders but also as active participants in the educational process through ongoing communication, workshops, and in-person programming.

5.6 - Enrichment Opportunities - Professional Learning Community (PLC) Agendas

Legacy the School of Sport Sciences supports the success of its P-TECH students through intentional collaboration among educators via Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). These PLCs meet regularly to align instructional practices, review student data, and implement targeted interventions and enrichment strategies. A key component of Legacy’s enrichment model is ensuring that faculty, dual credit liaisons, and support staff are working cohesively to address the academic, emotional, and college readiness needs of students enrolled in Lone Star College courses.
